The Telos Approach: Relationship-Based Treatment

A relationship-based model built to help adolescents and young adults create meaningful, lasting change through clinical care, structure, and daily practice.

Real Change Takes More Than Insight Alone

Insight matters, but lasting change requires more than understanding. Real progress happens when clinical care is reinforced through structure, consistency, and daily practice.

At Telos, therapy is not separated from the rest of life. Students build new patterns through repetition, accountability, and support that carries into each part of the day.

A Process That Builds Stability, Trust, and Momentum

Change happens over time, through a process that is both structured and individualized.

Orientation

Students are oriented to the program. It may take a little time before they understand the nuances and details of their new setting.

Engagement

As trust builds, students begin to engage more fully in treatment, relationships, and daily expectations.

Skill Building

Students develop practical tools for emotional regulation, accountability, communication, and daily functioning.

De-Scaffolding

As students demonstrate growth and accountability, structure gradually decreases to evaluate whether skills are translating into real-world independence.

Secret to Our Success

The Ten Pillars of Telos are the core principles that shape how treatment is practiced, relationships are built, and meaningful change is supported. Together, they create the foundation of the Telos model and guide the work we do with students and families every day.

For 20 years, Telos has refined its TEN PILLARS–the principles and practices we use to achieve superior results.

Why This Approach Works

As students develop greater competence, maturity, and accountability through daily practice, skills-focused therapy, and active family involvement, structure and oversight gradually decrease. This progressive approach allows students to apply what they are learning in increasingly independent ways while helping the treatment team assess whether those skills will successfully transfer to life outside the program.

  • Individualized Support
Treatment is shaped around each student’s needs.
  • Daily Skill Application
Students practice growth in real time, every day.
  • Family Involvement
Families remain part of the therapeutic process.
  • Skills Focus
Critical emotional regulations skills, life skills, and other important competencies are the focus of therapy.
