Telos Academy

A more normalized residential program for adolescent boys needing more than traditional support

Telos Academy serves boys ages 14–17 struggling with depression, anxiety, learning differences, and emotional challenges through integrated academics, clinical support, and consistent mentorship.

When Traditional Support Isn’t Working

Some students need more than tutoring, outpatient therapy, or a different school environment. When emotional struggles begin to affect academics, relationships, and daily functioning, support often needs to be more consistent and integrated.

Telos Academy is designed for boys who need structure and individualized support across more than one area of life.

  • Anxiety, depression, or emotional dysregulation
  • School avoidance or academic underperformance
  • Learning differences or executive functioning challenges
  • Low motivation, poor follow-through, or inconsistent engagement
  • Relational conflict at home, at school, or with peers
  • Difficulty building confidence, trust, or independence

How Telos Academy Is Different

Telos Academy is an uncommon combination of deep relationships, clinical sophistication, individualized care, and measurable outcomes.

While many programs focus primarily on behavior management, Telos believes lasting change happens through meaningful human connection. Students are known personally, mentored intentionally, and challenged within a culture that balances accountability with genuine compassion.

For more than two decades, Telos has also distinguished itself through its commitment to evidence-based practices and long-term outcomes research, continually measuring whether treatment is producing meaningful and lasting results for students and families.

A Program Built Around Skills

Social & Emotional

The clinical and residential programming is designed to be skills-based, teaching the skills that support emotional regulation and problem solving. Students are taught and challenged to “show up skilled” every day.

Academic

Our school program specializes in helping students who have been lost in other academic settings. The small class-sizes cater to individualized, deep learning.

Executive Function

Our therapists and teachers receive advanced training in how to help students learn and use executive function skills. These important skills are built into the therapy and academic curriculum in each classroom.

A Powerful Clinical Approach

At Telos Academy, clinical work is not separate from daily life. Therapy, academics, and residential support work together in one coordinated environment.

Individualized Attention

Telos is intentionally structured to provide a high level of individualized attention. Students are organized into small teams of 10, each supported by three dedicated mentors, in addition to teachers, therapists, medical professionals, and other support staff. This small-team model, combined with a true 1:4 staff-to-student ratio, ensures that no student “flies under the radar.”

A safe place to belong

Telos Academy works hard to create an emotionally safe environment where students can be authentic, vulnerable, and genuinely themselves without fear of ridicule or rejection. Bullying, targeting, humiliation, and intimidation are taken seriously and are not tolerated within the culture of the program. Staff actively teach respect, empathy, and healthy peer interaction while intervening quickly when students are hurtful toward one another.

Many students arrive at Telos carrying years of shame, insecurity, or social pain. Our goal is to create a community where it is safe to be different, safe to struggle, and safe to grow. Students are encouraged to develop individuality, confidence, and healthy relationships within a culture built on accountability, compassion, and mutual respect.

Meet the Best Team in the Profession

The magic of Telos is not found in the buildings or even the therapy models—it is found in the people and the life-changing relationships they create.

A Day at Telos

Structure, support, and real moments of growth — every day.

One of the most common questions families ask us is: “What will my son’s day actually look like?” At Telos Academy, every day is intentionally structured to balance clinical work, academics, relationships, and healthy activity — because healing happens in the in-between moments, not just in the therapy room.

Telos Academy FAQ

Is Telos Academy safe?

Yes. Safety is foundational to everything we do. Telos is licensed, accredited, and staffed by trained clinicians and mentors around the clock. For a full overview of our safety practices visit Our Safety Page.

What happens after my son leaves Telos Academy?

Discharge planning is built into the treatment process from early on. Your son’s therapist works with your family to create a clear aftercare plan — whether that’s returning home, transitioning to a step-down program, or another level of care. The goal is a smooth, supported landing.

Do you work with Educational or Therapeutic Consultants?

Yes. If you are working with an educational or therapeutic consultant, they can work directly with our admissions team. If you need a referral to a trusted consultant who specializes in residential treatment, contact our admissions team and we can help connect you.

What does my son’s room look like?

North Campus is designed to feel like home, not an institution. Rooms are large and spacious with a big common area including TV, couches, and a fireplace in each apartment. Custom cubbies and footlockers give each student their own space. See the full campus tour >

Can my son have a job while at Telos Academy?

Students at North Campus attend Telos High from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM and do not hold jobs during that time. Students who transition to a step-down program may be approved for employment by their primary therapist.
